The aging of your face can't be stopped, but you can turn back time with a Midas Touch Facelift. As you age, the skin on your face and neck loosens, fine lines turn into deeper ones, folds and fat deposits appear under your chin and around your neck, and deep creases appear between the nose and mouth. People decide to have a facelift because they are unhappy with these signs of aging. A facelift (or rhytidectomy) is the third most popular facial plastic surgical procedure today. And today's facelift is much better than in years past. Years ago a facelift simply tightened the skin on your face. Today is also includes repositioning the muscles, skin, and fat to give you a longer-lasting, more natural look. The trend today is for people to have a facelift when they're younger. Most patients are between 40 and 50, although facelifts can be performed into your 70s and even beyond if you are healthy. When having a facelift, some people opt to also have a nose reshaping, eyelid surgery and a forehead lift. A Facelift Can Repair: Sagging in the face. Creases below the lower eyelids. Folds that extend from the nose to the corners of the mouth. Fat that has been displaced. Loss of muscle tone in the lower face that causes jowls. Loose skin and fat under the chin and jaw.
The goal of a Midas Touch facelift is to reveal a natural beauty without the tell tale signs of a surgery that's been overdone.
Preparing For Your Surgery Your surgeon will tell you what medications to stop taking prior to your surgery. Some medicines like aspirin and certain vitamins thin your blood and can result in increased bleeding. If you smoke you will need to quit at least two weeks before your surgery and for two weeks afterwards. It is essential that you must not smoke for this time period to ensure proper healing. On the day of the surgery, ensure you wear loose, comfortable clothing that you don't need to pull over your head. A shirt or blouse with buttons will do. You should plan to take two weeks off of work to recover. However, this could vary. Ensure you have someone to drive you to and from your surgery and your appointments over the next few days. Also prepare to have someone stay with you the first 24 hours after your surgery.
The Procedure Before your facelift procedure you will be sedated with a general anesthesia that will put you to sleep. You won't feel any pain during the procedure and won't be aware that it's taking place. Your surgeon will make an incision that starts in the temple area and circles your ear to raise the skin. For men, the incision will be made to align to the natural beard line, and in all cases, incisions are placed so they line up to the natural creases of the skin for camouflaging purposes. The muscle underneath will be tightened, and if you have fatty deposits they may be removed, along with any excess skin. The skin will then be replaced and the incision will be sutured so it falls in a natural crease that won't show. Your surgeon will apply a dressing to protect the entire area. The procedure takes a few hours. You should be able to go home that day, however some people need to spend just one night in the hospital.
After Your Facelift
You will experience some minor pain after your surgery so your surgeon will prescribe pain medication to ensure your comfort. You may also be advised to use cold compresses to reduce swelling and bruising, although some degree of this is unavoidable. In some cases, a drainage tube may have been inserted to drain off excess fluid. This will be removed on the first or second day after surgery. If a dressing was applied during the procedure, it will be removed within two days. All sutures and staples are typically removed within 10 days. You'll be asked to keep your head elevated when lying down, and to avoid as much activity as possible. Rest is important for your healing. Total recovery usually takes about three weeks. We can instruct you on how to apply makeup to hide any residual bruising until it completely disappears.
Once the healing process is complete, your face will appear more youthful and pleasing in appearance. Patients with healthy skin should to expect their result to last 10-12 years. A Midas Touch facelift can take years off your face. Of course you will continue to age, but you'll do so with more self-confidence than before.
